About the Role

IFABCorp is looking for an experienced Laser Programmer to join our manufacturing team in Gastonia, NC.

In this role, you will be responsible for creating and optimizing CNC laser cutting programs and nesting layouts for the production of precision sheet metal parts. You will work from engineering drawings, CAD files, and customer specifications to develop efficient cutting programs that meet quality, dimensional, and production requirements.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with CAD/CAM programming, CNC laser cutting, nesting, and sheet metal fabrication, and is comfortable working closely with engineering and production teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, modify, and optimize CNC laser cutting programs using CAD/CAM software.

  • Develop and optimize nesting layouts to maximize material utilization and minimize scrap.

  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD files, and technical specifications to create accurate production programs.

  • Determine appropriate cutting sequences, tooling strategies, material types, and machine parameters based on part requirements.

  • Prepare and release CNC programs and related production files for laser cutting operations.

  • Review programs and conduct test runs or first-piece checks to verify dimensional accuracy and product quality.

  • Troubleshoot programming issues and make adjustments to improve cutting quality, efficiency, and cycle times.

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to resolve manufacturing issues and support production goals.

  • Maintain accurate programming files, revisions, and related documentation.

  • Follow established quality, safety, and production procedures.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in CNC programming, CAD/CAM, machining, or manufacturing is preferred.

  • 2+ years of experience in CNC programming, laser programming, or CAD/CAM programming, preferably in a sheet metal or metal fabrication environment.

  • Experience creating CNC laser cutting programs and nesting layouts.

  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM or nesting software such as SigmaNEST, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar platforms.

  • Familiarity with CNC laser cutting equipment, such as Amada, Mazak, or similar systems.

  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.

  • Knowledge of sheet metal materials and fabrication processes, including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to program accuracy and quality.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot programming and production issues.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with Engineering and Production teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with fiber or CO₂ laser cutting systems.

  • Experience with advanced nesting and material optimization.

  • Familiarity with CNC programming concepts, cutting parameters, and laser processing.

  • Experience working in a high-volume or job-shop sheet metal manufacturing environment.
